Beechwood Park – The Debate

Beechwood Park, Auchinleck

With Auchinleck Talbot being the most successful junior team in recent times it is only fitting that they have a great ground to play at.

But is Beechwood Park the best junior ground?

There is no correct answer to that as beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

One fan’s favourite stadium may be another’s least favourite.

There are so many factors that go into choosing your favourite ground such as; parking, prices, hospitality, pitch, price, view, toilets and other facilities.

However, no matter whether it is your favourite or not – there is no arguing that Beechwood Park is one of the best in the junior game.

The fans of Talbot certainly appreciate what has been done.

One fan said: “Beechwood Park has seen a complete overhaul.

“It is unrecognisable from the Beechwood Park of the 70s and 80s.

“A stand from Hamilton’s old ground Douglas Park was acquired and sits proudly at Beechwood today.

“The playing surface is one of the best in Scottish football, it used to be a bit of a mire in the winter months.

“New terracing, new covered and new toilets all add to the revamp of the stadium.

He added: “The committee and fans should all be proud of what they have achieved in a small village like Auchinleck.

“It gives the people of Auchinleck some pride and gave them something to hold onto in really tough times.”

And the Talbot committee are not going to stop there, as they want to get as good a stadium as possible.

A member of the committee said: “The next project that is already is underway is the new catering facilities.

“The old pie hut has seen better days and will soon be replaced by a modern block.

“Long term we will aim to get floodlights to complete a proper modern small stadium.

“There is plenty of work to get on with and having a good, modern ground is an asset.

She added: “We are massively encouraged by the support from the fans who have been magnificent, not only by putting their hands in their pocket but grafting and getting their hands dirty.

“It really is a team effort and the quintessential definition of a community club.”

Even if you feel that Talbot don’t have the best ground in the junior game now, they are adamant to change that beyond all doubt.
